King bed or queen: King! I need all the room I can get with two kids who like to crawl in bed with me and my husband, plus the cat!
Favorite TWH moment: Planning and executing the conference at Horseshoe Bay and making sure everyone had a good time. I loved watching our Executive VP cut loose and break it down on the dance floor!
The first question Monica Trichel asks when checking into a TWH property is “Where is the nearest Starbucks or a place to get Red Bull?” Maybe caffeine is one of her secrets to success, because she’s experienced a lot of it since joining the TWH family in 2005. This Baylor grad remembers being impressed with meeting then Area Manager Jim Smith during her first interview and says he’s been an influencing factor in each of her position changes within the company.
She spent two years as Director of Sales at Homewood Suites by Hilton Grapevine and two more at TownePlace Suites by Marriott Las Colinas. But her biggest challenge professionally was transitioning from Sales to Operations and learning how to balance revenue and bring profit to TWH ownership. She spent two years as General Manager at TownePlace Suites by Marriott Las Colinas before her promotion to Area General Manager for TownePlace Suites Las Colinas, Hampton Inn & Suites Arlington, Hilton Garden Inn Grapevine and Homewood Suites Irving. She also earned the coveted Apple REIT for the Year-over-Year Dominator Award for the TownePlace Suites brand before being promoted to Area General Manager in January 2012.
She thrives on difficult challenges, like moving an underperforming property out of a “red zone” and into success and is thrilled by the new opportunities she’ll have in her new position. Red Bull, anyone?
